This route is an absolute classic! A backpacking traverse that travels mostly in the alpine and treeline between Whistler and Squamish.  As an instructor at Capilano University I have guided this route 16 times teaching backpacking skills. It flanks iconic landmarks like Black Tusk and Mt. Garibaldi on ridges and endless meadows. Lakes, tarns and streams surround you. Encounters with bear, wolverines, mountain goats, and the sounds of wolves howling in the night have been common during past trips.

Safety is of the utmost importance. This summer, due to Covid-19 considerations we will only guide smaller groups of 4 - 6 people maximum depending on BC’s Covid Restart Phase recommendations. All guests during any shared drive will be asked to disinfect hands and wear gloves/ face masks while in the vehicles. Once on the mountain this personal protective equipment can come off and we will practice appropriate social distancing for people who are not within a “bubble” of friends or family. Not only does the fresh mountain air make things safer, it simply makes everything better!

The trip’s meeting point and traverse start is at Cheakamus Lake near Whistler Village. The route is predominantly off trail passing by the Helm Glacier, Castle Towers and Panorama Ridge before dropping down to the shores of Garibaldi Lake.  After that we disappear through 32,000 year old lava flows on a rough trail that leads over Price Mountain to descend down onto the trail-less Warren Glacier Flats. The route finishes by traveling over the scenic alpine meadows of Brohm Ridge to a long drop into the Squamish Valley and a van ride back to the trip start.

Strong hiking fitness required.
