Southern Chilcotins Slim Creek Wilderness Backpacking Traverse

July

This trip is done together with Canada West Mountain School

Near Sorcerer Peak

Near Sorcerer Peak

Located in the southern margin of the Southern Chilcotin Mountains. The route goes through some of the most expansive alpine meadows of the Coast Mountains and over ridges and gentle glaciers.

The first day is an early start driving north from Whistler. After traveling over the Hurley Pass and a stop at Gun Lake, the traverse route accesses the start of the route in the Dickson Range. Wildlife trails lead into a broad valley/ridge system. The next 4 days is made up traveling over trail-less meadows/talus slopes and a little glacier ice. We camp beside streams and lakes. In 24 years of guiding this route I’ve never met another group while out of the valleys. It is real wilderness, and there are grizzly bears and goats here. Most trips encounter these animals and many more.

Safety is of the utmost importance. This summer, due to Covid-19 considerations we will only guide smaller groups of 4 - 6 people maximum depending on BC’s Covid Restart Phase recommendations. All guests during any shared drive will be asked to disinfect hands and wear gloves/ face masks while in the vehicles. Once on the mountain this personal protective equipment can come off and we will practice appropriate social distancing for people who are not within a “bubble” of friends or family. Not only does the fresh mountain air make things safer, it simply makes everything better!

Strong hiking fitness required.
